Closed by the Council in 1991, to save money, Jesmond Pool re-opened to the public a year later as a community enterprise, and has flourished ever since. The pool is run by the Jesmond Swimming Project, a charity and limited company, who lease the pool from the Council, employ the manager and staff, and guide the overall development of the pool. In 2002/3 the building was the subject of a major renovation, and it now offers a gym, activity room, sauna and steam room, as well as the swimming pool itself.
