Local residents and the City Council encourage environmentally sound practices in Jesmond. City council refuse collections from every address in the City are weekly (day of week depend on location), and additionally, collections of materials for re-cycling are fornightly. The general weekly refuse collections are from green wheely bins, and the fortnightly recycling collections are from blue wheely bins. Residents may also request a brown wheely bin for garden waste. The local recycling plant is in Byker, on Walker road, operated by Sita on behalf of Newcastle City Council. Locations and hours Many other recycling facilities are available across the region.
